Longyearbyen is most northern town in the world and located on a Norwegian island called Svalbard which is less than 1000 kilometers from the North Pole. With virtually no unemployment or crime, Longyearbyen offers travel adventurists plenty to discover in both summer and winter. In the winter, discover dog sledding in the vast openness covered by a fresh blanket of silencing snow. Or take a invigorating snow mobile trip to an isolated Russian coal mine town called Pyramiden travelling across beautiful virgin terrain and potentially see some Svalbard Reindeer or even a Polar Bear. During the winter months, it is a must to see the spectacular Northern Lights. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes, including the Huset restaurant that offers fine dining in a very warm and elegant setting which also has Norway’s largest wine cellar.
