Located on the north west coastline of Italy known as “Riviera Ligure” comprises five villages : Monterosso a Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Rio Maggiore. The coastline, the five villages, and the surrounding hillsides are all part of the Cinque Terre National Park which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. All five of the small, charming villages cling to the steep cliffs with very little “modern constructions” visible which gives them their unique appeal. A great way to see all 5 villages from the sea is to take a boat from Monterosso all the way down to Porto Venere (south of Riomaggiore) and then back (one way takes around 2 ½ hours). The next day, buy a “Cinque Terre Day Pass” at a local train station, which allows the visitor to get on and off the trains the entire day. That way it will be possible to visit each village and discover their quaint and unique environments. One of the most exclusive unique ways to see the villages is hiking across the “Cinque Terre Path” that is following the most important “cultural links” of Northern Italy.
